Upcycling Urine Into Fertilizer | Toopi Organics | Story Behind Innovation

Jane Alice Liu

We visited Toopi Organics, a French startup upcycling human urine into fertilizer through fermentation. Urine is rich in phosphorus, nitrogen and potassium - nutrients needed in agricultural fertilizers. This impact company is challenging the inefficient and unsustainable human waste systems. Toopi Organics works with European toilet rental companies to collect urine from events like music festivals, and collect urine from gas stations and theme parks. The collect, stabilize, filter and then ferment urine in local fermentation plants, so that local farmers can have access to this fertilizer. Watch the journey behind their innovation.
