Worldwide, more than $200 billion of public money is given to farmers every year in subsidies. In Europe alone, farming subsidies consist of ⅓ of the total EU budget. So, how do these subsidies affect food production? And are they a barrier to sustainable farming? To understand this, we need to look at what farming subsidies are and why they exist.
