Fundraising Expert

Location: Remote & Freelance
Timing: 2 days a week until the end of the year with a possibility of an extension 

Position Summary:

FoodUnfolded® is looking for someone who knows their way around European funding (national and international) and fundraising landscape to join our diverse and growing team!

We are looking for a person with in-depth knowledge of funding, fundraising and revenue opportunities to draft a funding strategy that includes both public and private funding streams (foundations). This person should then implement the strategy by identifying funding opportunities and managing the entire application process from initial draft to submission to (hopefully) grant award. 

As a team, we operate remotely on a CET schedule but are open to candidates in other time zones with overlapping working hours.

The Fundraising Expert should have:

  • Four or more years of experience in proposal writing and grant acquisition with different types of donors e.g the different EU funding schemes, private foundations and corporations
  • Experience fundraising for knowledge platforms in the field of food or science.
  • You are active in EU affairs, ideally in environment and food (Green Deal) and related topics.
  • A proven track record of winning proposals.
  • A keen eye for identifying funding and grant opportunities.
  • Strong communication skills, written as well as oral, in English. Knowledge of an additional European language is advantageous.
  • Strong networking skills.
  • An optimistic nature – believing that with societal impact we can change the food system for the better. You are in for a challenge to create that change together with the team.
  • Strong self-management skills, ability to handle workloads independently and deliver on tight deadlines.

As our Fundraising Expert you:

Phase one - 2022

  • Work collaboratively with our editorial manager and head of public engagement to create and implement a funding strategy for FoodUnfolded®.
  • Search for and list potential donors and concrete funding opportunities and outline what we need to meet the requirements.
  • Design a due diligence process for donors.
  • Take part in networking opportunities with donors.
  • Prepare the application and justification documentation from the concept note stage to full submission for one promising opportunity.

Phase two – 2023 and beyond

  • Prepare the application and justification documentation from the concept note stage to full submission for promising opportunities.
  • Answer donors' information requests and follow-up on submitted proposals.
  • Take part in networking opportunities with donors.

FoodUnfolded® Editors: 

Editor, Spanish Editor, DACH Editor

Timing: 4 days a week

Contract Type: Long-term contract position (freelance), yearly extensions

Position Summary:

FoodUnfolded® is looking for editors to join our diverse and growing team! We are seeking three editors for our Spanish, German and English websites, respectively. FoodUnfolded® is a digital platform designed to reconnect people with the origins of their food. We strive to create credible, non-partisan, and accessible content that encourages our audience to think critically about the food system and their relationships with food. Through our collaborations, we build communication bridges between consumers, academics, experts, and policymakers. This community is the backbone of our mission, and we implement a wide range of content formats to engage our community and share information in an accessible, thought-provoking way. FoodUnfolded® is funded by EIT Food. 

The ideal candidate is self-managing, works well collaboratively, is able to deliver on tight deadlines and is committed to communicating about the origins and impact of our food. Responsibilities will include working with the FoodUnfolded® editorial team, external agencies and EIT Food's regional offices (CLC’s). The position is remote, but FoodUnfolded’s primary audience focus is in Europe and most meetings are held virtually, in Central European Time. 

The Editor should have:

  • Excellent communications skills to diverse audiences, both verbal and written, with the ability to influence others and effect change;
  • A body of work showcasing an understanding of what it takes to run an online community and all it entails; 
  • A Master degree in Science Communication, Journalism, Public Engagement or equivalent domain;
  • A ‘can do’ attitude, a strong sense of ownership and is able to deliver results;
  • A team player, self-organised; proactive, and service-oriented;
  • Strong teamwork communication skills and being able to work around tight deadlines;
  • The ability to learn and adapt quickly;
  • Cultural sensitivity when creating and editing publishing material; 
  • Experience working in cross-cultural environments; 
  • Proficiency with MS Office;
  • Fluency in English;
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) is a plus;
  • Affinity with food, agriculture and sustainability.

 

Editor FoodUnfolded.com 

As our Foodunfolded.com editor you: 

  • Liaise with our website developer and advancing development to keep the site on point;
  • Liaise with our SEO agency to make sure FoodUnfolded® continues to grow via SEO and that the SEO work can feed into the content direction of the campaigns;
  • Responsible for publication of editorial material;
  • Collaborate with the other editors and manage parts of running campaigns (in time, run campaigns);
  • Project manage events/dialogues as part of the campaigns;
  • Produce social media content for our Instagram-account (Tik Tok possible in the future);
  • Liaise with EIT Food partners and non-partners to develop collaborations;
  • Support the social impact tracking work;
  • Give ad hoc support where needed as we're still a small team;
  • Ensure all content represents FoodUnfolded® brand and ethos faithfully.

Editor FoodUnfolded® DACH

As our DACH Editor you:

  • Liaise with EIT Food and regional office (CLC Central) to better anchor FoodUnfolded® DACH to EIT Food (and CLC Central in particular);
  • Explore non-EIT Food national collaborations to further FoodUnfolded's aims and goals;
  • Explore national funding opportunities to contribute towards FoodUnfolded’s financial sustainability plan;
  • Grow the reach of the website for FoodUnfolded DACH via SEO work (with agency);
  • Give editorial support for FoodUnfolded®(DACH), campaign support;
  • Prepare strategy for growing FoodUnfolded via events (link to CLC Central events, other events or bespoke);
  • Project manage events/dialogues as part of the campaigns;
  • Grow the contributors and experts pool; 
  • Network & attend events to represent FoodUnfolded® DACH;
  • Support the translation of content (DE-EN/EN-DE);
  • Ensure all content represents FoodUnfolded® brand and ethos faithfully;
  • Support EN campaign development and adapt to DACH community;
  • Fluency in German.

Editor FoodUnfolded® Spanish

As our Spanish Editor you:

  • Liaise with EIT Food and regional office (CLC South)  to better anchor FoodUnfolded® ES to EIT Food (and CLC South in particular);
  • Explore non-EIT Food national collaborations to further FoodUnfolded's aims and goals;
  • Explore national funding opportunities to contribute towards FoodUnfolded’s financial sustainability plan;
  • Grow the reach of the website for FoodUnfolded® ES via SEO work (with agency);
  • Manage the FoodUnfolded® ES website (via agency) to make sure the site is on point and up to date (technically and design-wise);
  • Upload editorial material;
  • Together with content editor, prepare ES-specific posts for FoodUnfolded®  Instagram;
  • Prepare strategy for growing FoodUnfolded via events (link to CLC South events, other events or bespoke);
  • Project manage events/dialogues as part of the campaigns;
  • Attend FoodUnfolded® EN editorial meetings to make sure FoodUnfolded EN and ES are aligned;
  • Meet regularly with the German editor to make sure DACH and ES are aligned;
  • Manage article translations from Foodunfolded.com and FoodUnfolded® DACH;
  • Grow, manage and commission content from the ES pool of contributors;
  • Support EN campaign development and adapt to ES community;
  • Fluency in Spanish.

UX Designer [CLOSED]

Hours: 2-3 days a week (3 to 6 months with possibility of extension)

Position Summary:

FoodUnfolded® is looking for a mid-career UX designer to join our diverse and growing team!

FoodUnfolded® is a non-profit platform with a mission to connect people with the origins of their food. We strive to create credible, non-partisan, and accessible content that encourages our audience to think critically about the food system and their relationships with food. Through our collaborations, we build communication bridges between consumers, academics, experts, and policymakers. Our website is the home for our content and hosts articles, animations, and infographics aimed at diverse audiences.

We are looking for a UX Designer to work alongside our Visual Editor and external full-stack development agency to design, develop, and implement a fresh design package for our website. The project includes modernizing and elevating our visual aesthetic and user experience while maintaining the core elements of our brand identity.

We are seeking a designer who is self-managing - enabling them to work seamlessly in a remote, international team as well as with external developers. In addition to having a keen eye for design, the ideal candidate also has an intermediate-level understanding of web-related programming languages and strong project management skills. 

As a team, we operate on a CET schedule but are open to candidates in other time zones with overlapping working hours.

The UX designer should also have:

  • Experience with front-end development (additional back-end or full-stack experience is a plus)
  • A portfolio showcasing a thorough understanding of web design principles and proven ability to produce compelling and accessible web platforms
  • Strong self-management skills, ability to handle workloads independently and deliver on tight deadlines. 
  • Strong teamwork communication skills and a healthy attitude towards critique and iterative design processes
  • Enthusiasm for experimentation and design challenges with an ability to create innovative solutions and deliver high-quality results
  • Commitment to representing our brand faithfully
  • An interest for sustainability, community, future-forward innovation

Qualifications and preferred skills:

  • Fluency in English
  • Software: Figma, Sketch, XD, or similar + Photoshop, Illustrator
  • Required coding languages: Working knowledge of HTML and CSS
  • Optional: Some knowledge of Java, JavaScript
